Eligibility

WLA's bylaws provide that full membership is open to any person admitted to any state bar.  Associate membership (i.e. full voting rights but not eligible for office) is available to individuals who have graduated from or are enrolled in a school of law or a graduate school of law but who are not licensed to practice law.

Each member is entitled to one vote on each matter submitted to a vote of the members. Amoung other issues, members vote to elect the Board of Directors. 

 

Our Activities

  • Supporting and promoting women laywers and law students in professional endeavors.
  • Addressing gender bias in the legal profession.
  • Endorsing individuals for judicial selection and appointment.
  • Supporting individuals in non-political positions of influence, including judicial commissions and bar leadership.
  • Sponsoring educational and social networking events.
  • Providing scholarships to female law students.
  • Raising financial support and awareness for local charities benefitting women and children.
  • Tracking State legislation impacting women and children. 


July Mentorship Luncheon | Thursday  July 9, 2026 | 12:00 - 1:15 PM 

 

Please join the WLA for its July Mentorship Luncheon on Thursday July 9, 2026, featuring an in-person conversation with Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner's Global General Counsel, Laura Giokas. As Global General Counsel, Laura is responsible for managing and coordinating all firm-related legal matters. In this role, Laura also advises the firm on strategic and operational decisions and develops firmwide protocols and policies in the risk management area. Come take the opportunity to learn from this impressive member of our Bar.
The WLA will give priority in registration for this luncheon to its target audience, WLA members who are 36 and under or have been practicing five years or less.  The WLA's Membership/Mentorship Sponsor, Dowd Bennett LLP, will host the meeting and provide lunch for everyone in attendance.  Register here.

 

2026 Unity Summer Social | July 23, 2026 | 5:30PM - 7:30PM

Join the WLA and our co-host organizations at a Happy Hour to celebrate our efforts to promote equality and opportunity in the legal profession. This event will be held at Chico Bueno, a brand-new Mexican concept opening in The Grove this summer. 

The Unity Summer Social is presented by the WLA in partnership with the Missouri Asian-American Bar Association (MAABA), Mound City Bar Association (MCBA), Hispanic Bar Association of St. Louis (HBA), South Asian Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (SABA), and Italian American Lawyers of St. Louis.
